Have you heard about the new scam with fraudsters posing as the Social Security Administration?

I just got a call saying my social security number was suspended for suspicion of illegal activity. I almost wanted to stay on the line just to see what kind of game they were playing.

We should all be aware that gov’t agencies such as the IRS, the SS Admin and the like, don’t do their business by robocall.

And the Social Security Administration does not call you unless you specifically ask them to do that.

Thank you for the PSA.  Not really applicable for me where I currently live.  Junk mail and Robo Calls are illegal, are investigated and prosecuted.

  • Didn't you ask what illegal activities you were under suspicion of doing?

"Please don't take away my SSN....I didn't know it was illegal to do that with a raccoon!"

  • Nah, but I did get a call last year sometime,  saying I owed back taxes to Canadian goverment and was going to be arrested if didn’t call immediately. I started crying and shaking for about 5 minutes, then remembered I always file my taxes on time and a scam lol.

  • I've received a few calls like that in the US too.  Darn, I thought moving to Canada might help, but I guess not.  :)

  • Wow, the scammers are running rampant!  They must find enough people who "bite" to make it worth their while.  Very scary.  Thanks for the heads up!
